All of our staff is specialized in cardiovascular care and are highly professional. Each CCCU room is private, quiet and provides our patients with a view to our facility’s courtyard. Much like the acute care units, CCCU has set its goals for patient care. Its standard of excellence is set at a 1-to-1, or a 1-to-2 nurse-to-patient ratio, depending on the needs of the patient. The care of the patient is individualized according to the need of the patient.

Lubbock Heart Hospital’s goal is to provide the best patient care possible and to strive for quality care and constant improvement. LHH expects all of its patients to have a “very good” experience while in the hospital.

The Lubbock Heart Hospital Cath Lab is another element that makes the hospital a state-of-the-art facility. In the Cath Lab, hemodynamic monitoring is accomplished with the Mac Lab 7000 which provides patient related physiologic information, while Inturis, fluoroscopy equipment built by Phillips, provides premier image acquisition. Picture archiving and communication system (PACS) is then performed by Optimed. The Optimed system allows the lab to be cineless, or filmless, which saves on the need for storage, chemicals, film and additional staff hours for processing and filing.

Electrophysiology studies are accomplished with the Cardio Lab computer-based monitoring system and the Bloom Electrophysiology Stimulator. Intravascular ultrasound gives the cardiologist another dimension in diagnosis and treatment modalities for vascular diseases.

The Cath Lab team members include RNs, LVNs, X-ray Techs, registered cardiovascular invasive specialists and cardiovascular technologists. Every patient has a talented team of four, in addition to their cardiologist, providing optimum cardiac care.

Sleep Lab

What is a Sleep Study?

A Sleep Study is a medical assessment of your sleep, ordered by your physician. The diagnosis of many sleep disorders requires you to sleep overnight at the Lubbock Heart Hospital Sleep Center. We have provided sleep rooms that are private and comfortable in a hotel-like atmosphere. Your sleep pattern is monitored by applying sensors to the surface of the skin. These sensors record brain waves, muscle tone, eye movement, heart rate, breathing pattern and body movements. None of the monitoring procedures are painful and the sleep professional is available throughout the entire night to assure your comfort.

What types of sleep disorders can be evaluated?

The most common sleep disorder evaluated is Sleep Apnea or Sleep Disordered Breathing. Other sleep disorders that can be identified include: Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), Periodic Limb Movement Syndrome (PLMS), Teeth Grinding (Bruxism), REM Behavior Disorder (RBD), Sleep Terrors.

How long does the procedure take?

A sleep study, or polysomnogram, is an overnight procedure. We ask you arrive at 7:30pm, and stay until approximately 6:00am. During this time, we will explain the procedure, answer any questions you may have, and allow you time to get comfortable with the room. We have a TV in each room and you can bring reading material/laptop/games to entertain yourself for a short time as you relax. We can also accommodate the need to get up earlier if need be.

When will my test results be ready?

A preliminary report will be available to your physician as soon as Lubbock Heart Hospital Sleep Center scores your study. The final report follows in approximately two weeks, but is dependent on the interpreting physician.

Will a Sleep Study be covered by my insurance?

Overnight sleep testing is a procedure covered by most plans. Lubbock Heart Hospital Sleep Center will work with your physician to verify coverage and help obtain any pre-certification or authorization required. You may wish to contact your insurance company (via the customer service number located on your insurance card.)

Imaging Services

What is Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA)?
CCTA combines the use of X-Rays with computerized analysis of the images. EKG electrodes are positioned on the patient’s chest in order to synchronize the scanner precisely to the heart rate. This makes it possible to construct a three dimensional picture of the area being studied. Compared to diagnostic catheter angiography, CCTA is a more patient friendly, non-invasive procedure, and only takes a few minutes.

Preparing for a Coronary CT Angiogram
You will be asked to avoid any food or drink 4 hours before your study. You may take your prescribed medications with a small amount of water. Avoid smoking and caffeine for 24 hours before your procedure. The caffeine and nicotine can interfere with the results of your test. You should wear loose fitting comfortable clothes.

What will the patient experience during the CCTA procedure?
Patients undergoing a CCTA receive an iodine-containing contrast dye as an IV solution to ensure the best images possible. The same IV in the arm may be used to give a medication to slow or stabilize the patient’s heart rate for better imaging. CCTA takes a few minutes for the actual examination. Overall, you can expect to be in the department for 30 to 90 minutes.

How will the patient get results of the CCTA?
A cardiologist will read the images and forward the results to the physician who ordered the test. Your physician or nurse will give the results to you by phone or by mail.

How do I schedule A CCTA?
To schedule your appointment, call (806) 472-3800 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. A physician’s order is needed.

Calcium Score

What is a Calcium Score?

The Heart Calcium Score is a high-resolution Computed Tomography of the heart with attention to the coronary arteries, which is meant to tell you if you are at risk for heart disease.

Coronary artery calcification is analyzed by computer software and test results are depicted in photographic images with a calcium score.

The heart calcium score procedure is pain free, with no needles or exercise and you are fully clothed.

With a physician’s order and a few minutes of your time, you and your physician will have an accurate view of the calcium content of your coronary artery system.

What are the Benefits?

This High-Definition CT Heart Calcium Score is an excellent non-invasive test to demonstrate your risk for coronary artery disease.

It can give you and early warning and this test will answer many questions about your risk factors and whether additional test(s), such as angiography, may be needed.

What does a Calcium Score Test Include?

Heart Calcium Score tests are more that just scans of your heart. It is a cardiovascular assessment that includes:

  • A 64-Slice CT Scanner
  • High-definition images of your heart for your viewing
  • A personalized report of your results
  • A copy of your report is sent to the requesting physician

What should I Expect?

A service fee of $100 is due at the time of the test (most health plans do not cover this test). The actual exam only takes a few seconds. You should be in and out of our Imaging Center in less than 45 minutes.

Wear normal street clothes for the test. Two-piece clothing is preferred. You will not need to change into a gown.

You will briefly lie on a table and usually, with two breath holds, images of your coronary arteries are captured by computed tomography.

CT Scanner

Lubbock Heart Hospital is equipped with a Siemens Sensation High-Resolution 64-Slice Computed Tomography machine that through digital reconstruction produces sharp, clear, three-dimensional images of the heart.
